History

Moi Lum Restaurant was founded in the 1920s by founder Mr Khong Yu Lum. The restaurant has been selling their legendary Crispy Fried Chicken 歎爽付痔 and Special Crab Tofu 署熱狭遣 for the past 80 years. The restaurant started out by renting a shop space in a little coffee shop eatery selling and producing wanton noodles along Tanjong Pagar Road. When the coffee shop owners, Cheong Hou Coffee Shop, offered to sell the premises to Mr Khong Yu Lum, Mr Khong seized the opportunity as a young entrepreneur and started the restaurant with his peers from Guangdong who all had exceptional culinary skills.

The restaurant business expanded rapidly. During the 1930s, Moi Lum Restaurant started providing catering services to shops and businesses that needed a convenient way to feed their staff. Subsequently, the restaurant expanded their catering arm to serve large associations as well as a multitude of events for the rich and famous elite.

In the 1960s, Moi Lum Restaurant was asked to participate in the very first Singapore Food Festival that was spread out over 10 days. The event featured signature local dishes that were dished out by the leading restaurants in Singapore then.

72 years after its founding in 1992, Moi Lum was asked to cease its operations at its Tanjong Pagar Road branch because the government repossessed the premises in an en-bloc initiative
Moi Lum Restaurant re-opened in 1993 at a coffee shop along Henderson Road. The store was reopened by Mr Khong¨s second son, Ah Tuck, who took over the running of the restaurant and kept the regular customers coming back. After six years, the Henderson outlet was clearly too small for the swelling crowd that queued up during meal times. Once again, Moi Lum Restaurant moved to larger premises at Geylang Road.

In 2004, Moi Lum Restaurant made a sentimental move back to the location of its founding in Tanjong Pagar at a Food Street call Murray Terrace, just a few shop spaces behind the old Moi Lum Restaurant of the 1920s.

After 4 Years operating in Murray Terrace en-bloc sales struck again and this time with an established clientele it was a great set back to once again relocate the restaurant.

After much scouting for a new premise, the restaurant found its current location 38 Maxwell Road, Airview Building, #01-01. Again situated near to its origins and continue to provide quality Cantonese Cuisine to its fellow customers.
